What is aquaponics? It is the combination of hydroponics and aquaculture. Hydroponics is a method of growing plants with their roots directly in the water without soil. Aquaculture is the process of growth of fish. Both types of systems can be very effective, but there are disadvantages associated with both.
Aquaculture, a big problem is the accumulation of fish waste. These wastes can be toxic to the fish to reach certain levels. Aquaponic systems come in many forms and can be simple or complex. Some are as simple as a water tank with fish and plants on the upper part with its roots in the water. Others can be complex with circulating pumps, tanks, valves and other components.
Depending on what your needs wishes are, there are systems aquaponics that can be very practical for any fan, gardener or commercial producer.
